For the past month, India has been marred by numerous troubling incidents: 1. The Chief Minister of Delhi has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate without any money trail or conviction. 2. Two new Election Commissioners, Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, have been appointed by PM Narendra Modi, under a controversial new law, just weeks before the Lok Sabha Polls. 3. Electoral Bonds – India’s Biggest Scam: The Enforcement Directorate arrested Aurobindo Pharma’s Director in a money laundering case. After five days of arrest, Aurobindo Pharma donated electoral bonds worth 5 crores to the BJP Party, leading to his release. Subsequently, Aurobindo Pharma donated electoral bonds worth 25 crores to the BJP Party again. In total, Aurobindo Pharma donated 34 crores worth of electoral bonds to the BJP Party. 4. The leading opposition party, Congress, finds its bank accounts frozen, rendering them unable to use their funds for Lok Sabha election campaigns. 5. Just a month before the Lok Sabha Polls 2024, Congress has been slapped with a demand notice of 1,700 crores by the Income Tax department. 6. Congress receives another notice from the Income Tax Department for a financial year dating back to 1993-94. 7. Following Congress, the Communist Party has received an 11 crore rupees notice from the Income Tax department for using an old PAN card while filing tax returns in recent years. 8. An hour after filing his election nomination, Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Amol Kirtikar receives an ED notice. 9. Media outlets are not broadcasting opposition advertisements. 10. TMC Party Candidate Saket Gokhale receives a total of 11 notices from the Income Tax Department in just 72 hours for various years, some dating back as far as 7 years. 11. NCP Leader Praful Patel faces allegations of corruption by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). After joining the BJP Alliance, the CBI closes the corruption case against Praful Patel within 30 days of his alliance. 12. Congress Leader Naveen Jindal faces similar circumstances as above. 13. Shortly after resigning as a Calcutta High Court Judge, Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay (retd) joins BJP in Kolkata, admitting that he was approached by the BJP before his resignation. This marks a shift from “bail is the rule, Jail is the exception” to “Jail is the rule, bail is the exception.” 14. Advocate Dushan Dabey claims that judges are not free from fear. 15. 100 FIRs have been registered, and 6 individuals arrested for pasting posters against PM Narendra Modi across Delhi. One of the posters reads “Modi hatao, Desh bachao” (Remove Modi, Save the Country). 16. Four cases have been registered against the late journalist Pawan Jaiswal and Rajkumar Pal, who exposed the ‘Salt-Roti’ mid-day meal scandal, revealing how government school students were served roti with salt in the Mid Day Meal. 17. The Central Government has released the draft of the Broadcasting Services (Regulation) Bill. This proposed bill has raised concerns among independent journalists, who fear that it aims to suppress voices critical of government policies and decisions. The draft bill allows government officers to conduct unannounced inspections at the homes or offices of YouTubers or content creators and seize their equipment without prior notice. 18. The government is providing free food grains to about 81.35 crore beneficiaries to hide the fact that 81.35 crore people do not have enough money to buy food to survive.
