NCPCR Seeks Probe into Minors’ Involvement in Nuh Violence

Aug 1, 2023

The recent communal flare-up in Nuh district, Haryana, has raised grave concerns about the alleged use of children in stone-pelting and other illegal activities during the violence. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has taken suo-motu cognizance of this distressing matter and has urgently sought an inquiry into the exploitation of children. In a letter addressed to the Haryana administration, the apex child rights body emphasized the need for immediate action to safeguard the rights and well-being of the affected children.

The NCPCR has appealed to the Haryana administration to investigate the events surrounding the involvement of children in the violent protests. The commission believes that a thorough inquiry is essential to understand the extent of child exploitation and ensure appropriate measures are taken to protect their rights.

Child Welfare Committee Involvement: As part of their efforts to safeguard the children’s welfare, the NCPCR has urged the authorities to identify the children used in the illegal protests and bring them before the Child Welfare Committee, if necessary. This step is vital to ensure the children’s safety and well-being during and after the investigation process.

Recognizing the significant role of parents in this distressing situation, the NCPCR has stressed the importance of providing appropriate counseling and support to the families involved. Addressing the underlying issues and offering guidance can aid in preventing future exploitation of children during such events.

The NCPCR’s involvement in this matter highlights the significance of addressing violations of child rights. Children should never be subjected to dangerous and illegal activities, and their safety and well-being must be a priority during times of unrest.

Recent Violence in Nuh: The violence in Nuh resulted in the tragic loss of lives, with five people killed and several others injured. Incidents of violence occurred during an attack on a Vishva Hindu Parishad procession in Nuh, and a naib imam was killed at a mosque in Gurugram. The NCPCR’s call for action aims to prevent the further exploitation of children amidst this challenging situation.

The NCPCR urges the local authorities and the community to take immediate action to protect the rights of children and prevent any further exploitation. If you have any information about the alleged involvement of children in the violence, please report it to the authorities immediately.
