New Delhi, September 14 (ANI): Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and party leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday condoled the death of an Indian Army colonel, major and a DSP during an encounter between terrorists and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
In a tweet, Kharge said, “Our brave Army personnel and a DSP have made the supreme sacrifice fighting terrorists in an encounter at Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir. We are extremely saddened by their loss. Our deepest condolences to the families of our bravehearts.”
Gandhi, in a Facebook post, said, “The news of the death of two officers of our army and a DSP of Jammu and Kashmir Police in a terrorist encounter in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir is extremely sad. In this difficult time, I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families of the martyrs. The entire country will always remember his sacrifice for the protection of India.”
The encounter took place in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. The security forces killed three terrorists in the encounter.
The Congress leaders’ condolences came a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condoled the death of the Army personnel and the DSP.
In a tweet, Modi said, “I pay tribute to the brave Army personnel and police officer who lost their lives in the Anantnag encounter. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. My thoughts are with their families.”
The encounter in Anantnag is the latest in a series of encounters between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. In recent months, there have been a number of successful encounters in which security forces have killed a large number of terrorists.
The security forces have been stepping up their operations against terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of the recent targeted killings of civilians and security personnel in the region.
The Congress leaders’ condolences to the families of the Army personnel and the DSP who lost their lives in the encounter is a reflection of the party’s commitment to supporting the security forces in their fight against terrorism.
