The first day of the debate on the no-confidence motion saw the Congress and Union ministers locking horns over the situation in Manipur. The Congress accused the government of being insensitive to the plight of the people of Manipur, while the government defended its actions and said that it was doing everything it could to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
The no-confidence motion is a major test for the Modi government. If the motion is passed, it will be the first time that a non-Congress government has been defeated in a no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha. The government is confident that it will be able to defeat the motion, but the opposition is determined to give it a tough fight.

The debate on the no-confidence motion is expected to continue for the next few days. It will be interesting to see how the different parties position themselves and what arguments they put forward. It is also likely that the debate will become quite heated, as both the government and the opposition are keen to score points.
The no-confidence motion is a significant event in Indian politics. It is a chance for the opposition parties to raise their concerns about the government’s performance and to try to force it to change its policies. It is also a chance for the government to defend its record and to show that it is still in touch with the needs of the people.
With the significant Delhi Services Bill resolved and just three sessions remaining before the conclusion of the Monsoon Session, both the Opposition and Treasury benches engaged in a confrontational standoff on August 8. The Rajya Sabha witnessed a dramatic episode centered around the motion to suspend TMC MP Derek O’Brien due to unruly behavior. Initially, the Chairman announced his departure from the House, but later clarified that the suspension motion wasn’t voted upon, allowing his continued presence.
Simultaneously, a heated debate unfolded in the Lok Sabha as the INDIA Opposition bloc presented a no-confidence motion against the government. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi initiated the discussion, leading to fervent exchanges between the Opposition and the treasury benches, addressing matters ranging from Manipur to governance and the economy. While the government maintains a comfortable numerical advantage, the Opposition utilized this occasion to showcase their consolidated unity, anticipating the upcoming Lok Sabha elections against the Modi-led BJP.
In the Rajya Sabha, four Bills were discussed and passed on August 8, with Opposition members absent due to their walkout regarding the Manipur violence issue. Throughout the ongoing Monsoon Session, the Rajya Sabha endorsed around a dozen Bills despite the Opposition’s boycott, citing the Manipur crisis. An exception was the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill debate, which transpired on Monday.
