Communal Violence in Gurugram: Mob Loots Shops, VHP Demands NIA Probe

Aug 1, 2023

Fresh cases of communal violence were recorded in Gurugram on Tuesday, with a mob setting shops ablaze and chanting “Jai Shri Ram” in front of a mosque. The mob also ransacked some shops belonging to a particular community.

Attacks in Haryana

The violence comes after a mob attacked a religious procession in the adjoining Nuh district on Monday, killing one person and injuring several others.

The Gurugram district magistrate has issued an order prohibiting fuel bunks from selling loose petrol or diesel with immediate effect. He said that the communal tensions in the Nuh district and bordering areas in Gurugram posed a potential threat to law and order in the region.

The VHP has demanded an NIA probe into the incident, calling it a “terror attack”. The organization alleged that the attacks were carried out against Hindu devotees “in a pre-planned manner” and were “incited” by some Congress leaders of Haryana.

The police have arrested several people in connection with the violence. The situation in Gurugram remains tense and it is unclear when the unrest will end.

Please stay safe and help to maintain peace and harmony in Gurugram. If you see anything suspicious, please report it to the police immediately.
